Sex God and March Madness

I'm sitting at Panera right now sipping an I.C. Mocha while reading and watching the March Madness scores update on my laptop. The scores always have to be ridiculously close in the tournament, so I'm sitting here looking like a complete freak as I cringe and dramatically react to the updating on my screen. Who cares though? I'm also reading an amazing book right now by Rob Bell called Sex God. Only a chapter into it, but so far it's really opening my heart and challenging me. I just read about bringing heaven to earth. At one point he says, "How you treat the creation reflects how you feel about the creator." I love that. What a beautiful challenge. I want to live more like that, treating people the way I want to be treated, and more importantly, the way God wants all of us to be treated. I want to bring what Jesus teaches to this earth and actually live it in a raw and genuine way.

Also, I can't say enough about Bloc Party's new album, A Weekend In The City. This stuff shakes me and leaves me hoping to wake up tomorrow as a drummer. Lately, I'm the guy in the car who is beating his dashboard like a drum set and looking like a complete dork. I don't care though. You would be too if you were listening. Pick up this album. Absolutely beautiful.

Sex God and Footsoldiers

So I was recently passed the baton of heading up Switchfoot's street team, the Footsoldiers. My good friend Katherine asked me last week to take over for her and I said yes, no hesitation. What an honor and a blessing to be working for such a beautiful and powerful movement, and such incredible people. I'm excited to see where it takes me, and hopefully, where I can take it.

Also, can't wait for Rob Bell's new book, Sex God. Should be out sometime in March. If you haven't read his previous one, Velvet Elvis, please do yourself a huge favor and turn those pages.

Much love.

Open Your Eyes

Last night I was driving down the 5, back home from meeting with my buddy, Bryan, in Anaheim. I thought I would give the new Snow Patrol album a listen, so I tuned up the iPod and was transported into symphonic rock melodies that made me want to tear off into the sunset, running headlong across the surface of the ocean to the perfect horizon line waiting nations away. My bones and muscles were chilled and frozen from the sounds coming from each song. One in particular, Open Your Eyes. If you want to experience something ridiculously beautiful, powerful, and positively overwhelming, listen to track 10, and loud. Sometime when you're alone in a room or your car, close your eyes, open the window of your room and of your soul, and let the music lift you. And when you get to 3:53 in the song, the melodies will overtake you and make you want to let go. The symphonic climax is loud and big and gorgeous, and you will feel drops of love and joy dripping down the walls of your heart. The music at three minutes and fifty three seconds will absolutely shake you. When I hear it, I can't help but think that God is smiling. For the next 90 seconds, you will be elevated...

Symphony Above The Trees

When the leaves begin to fall
Will you still believe
Because somewhere deep inside
There's a symphony above the trees

From green to red and back again our colors change
And then one day we lose our grip
When the wind shifts and takes you along
Don't forget that you'll be picked up once you slip

When the leaves begin to fall
The colors begin to crumble and bleed
But remember that we will sing again
For the symphony is born by the seed

And by the symphony we will believe...

RIGHT NOW...

My beautiful wife sleeps on our white couch. She is recovering from getting her wisdom teeth removed. She is the most beautiful thing in all the world when she sleeps. I have a coffee stain on my white v-neck t-shirt. I mis-sipped while I was reading the latest Paste Magazine. I finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince last night and can’t wait for the 7th to come out. I’m pumped that Duke won yesterday. I’m also pumped that USC lost, giving us OSU fans a hope for one more chance to smoke Michigan. I drank two cups of coffee today. I’m trying to figure out what book to read next (probably East of Eden or the first in the Lemony Snicket series). I really want to go back to Ohio for Christmas. I’m crazy in love with the woman sleeping on my couch, and now it’s time to go take care of her some more…

THOUGHTS AT 10:21 P.M.

I'm sitting at my kitchen table, staring across the room at my beautiful wife who is seated at our other computer (a nice, cheap eMac that we found on Craig's List) and thanking God for my life. Tonight was one of those nights you can't find the words to describe, but somewhere inside, you know God is playing a symphony. On top of living with my best friend and the love of my life, I got to spend time with my close brothers tonight for a little thing we do every Monday night now. We get together, grill some food, drink some wine, and sit around a table and go deep about God and life. Tonight we took some Scripture from Matthew 19 and hashed through it. What an incredibly refreshing thing to do. I cherish this time with my brothers, digging deep, challenging and chiseling away at each other in hopes of finding deeper meaning and purpose to our lives, and in the end, finding more of Christ. It's all too beautiful to put into words in an online journal.

And then I drive across town, walk through the door of my new home, and wrap my ridiculously gorgeous wife in my arms and tell her I love her. Whatever is going on, please keep signing me up...

I'm raising my glass of chocolate milk to love tonight...

I'M MARRIED...OH! GRAVITY

Well folks, Seth Bennett Williams is now officially married and he is the happiest man who has ever lived. The woman of my dreams now has my last name...ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? We live in a little apartment in Encinitas that we're currently putting together. We have to make it nice for the little gnomes that live with us. But honestly, there is nothing more beautiful than falling asleep with my best friend and the woman of my dreams in my arms at night. I'm in the stars.

Switchfoot's new site is now up. You can listen to clips of all the tracks on the new album, Oh! Gravity. Check it out.

Much love,
Seth

17 Days...

So I'm trying these Crest White Strips in hopes that I might have neon white teeth for the wedding. So far so good till today when I did two back to back while sitting at my computer at work. HELLO! I think my right #3 incisor is up in flame right now. I'm not even sure if there is such thing as a right #3 incisor, but who cares. My tooth is pretty much crazy sensitive to everything under the sun right now. And another thing about Crest White Strips...who had to make them so dang slippery on your teeth? You put one on and the next thing you know it's at the top back of your gums or something. The whole 30 minutes is a balance between straightening the dang things and trying not to go near anyone because you're foaming profusely at the mouth. Whatever, as long as they bring me snow white teeth by the 29th.

I have never wanted to be married more than today. If it were any longer than 17 days I'd probably go insane. I want to be married like there's no tomorrow! God, please help me through these next 17 days without blacking out and messing up my neon white teeth...

Much love, friends. Tonight I'll be dreaming of the woman I don't deserve, the woman of my dreams, and the woman I will call my wife in 17 turns of the sun...

2 things I'm excited about that come out tomorrow:
Continuum • John Mayer
Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven But Nobody Wants To Die • David Crowder

To Love The Woman You Love

Sometimes it's hard to love the woman you love
When you're under the blanket of rules
Sometimes it's hard to suppress your passion
When you're on a train full of jewels

The wheels continue in motion
Leading us a couple thousand miles east of the ocean
And we can breathe the day, it's so close
When the blanket will be lifted
And the rules will fade like a ghost

Sometimes it's hard to love the woman you love
When the world is leading you the wrong way
But sometimes it's easy to love the woman you love
When you remember that love has brought you here today

My love, I am here to tell you
That you are more beautiful than all the angels painting the sky
And when you lay your head to rest tonight
Remember that I will love you till the day I die

Sometimes it's easy to love the woman you love
When she is the one you can't stop dreaming of

And when I close my eyes tonight
Under the canvas of stars above
I will thank my Father in the skies
For there is nothing more beautiful
Than to truly love the woman you love

35 Days...

My man Griffin House has done it again. Please do yourself a favor and give Homecoming a listen today. I haven't got the coin to buy it yet, but it doesn't hold me back from listening to the 30 second tease of each song on iTunes over and over. This dude can flat-out play. One of the top five songwriters in the world right now, hands down. Support my brother and buy a copy and listen to it till you brake it and have to buy another. It's just that good.

Love someone today.
